Coat of Arms 1898
Recess printed in sheets of 10x10 by the Compagnie française des papiers-monnaie, Paris. Line perf. 11.
The stamps of Haiti’s only watermarked issue (“RH” for “République d’Haïti”) were sold out in the post office after being on sale but a few days (around April 1898); used on cover are therefore hard to find. The 2c. exists in shades between bright carmine-red (2) and the listed color brown carmine (1), but this variation is due to the effect of the climate. The amount of shift between the two impressions on Scott #49a varies considerably, giving each copy an individual appearance.
