Pres. François Denys Légitime 1889
A number of essays showing Haiti’s coat of arms in the center was alledgedly found among the personal papers of a Haitian general after fighting between the forces of 1888–1889 president François Denis Légitime and those of 1889–1896 president Florvil Hyppolite had ended. Later, these were augmented by a series of eight with the same basic design but depicting Légitime’s head.
Apparently produced ca. 1889 by a private speculator to be offered to Légitime as replacements, the potential stamps became worthless when Légitime was defeated.
They are not known postally used.
