Pres. François Denys Légitime 1889
NOT ISSUED!
A number of essays showing Haiti’s coat of arms in the center was alledgedly found among the personal papers of a Haitian general after fighting between the forces of 1888–1889 president François Denis Légitime and those of 1889–1896 president Florvil Hyppolite had ended. Later, these were augmented by a series of eight with the same basic design but depicting Légitime’s head.
Apparently produced ca. 1889 by a private speculator in New York to be offered to Légitime as replacements, the potential stamps became worthless when Légitime was defeated.
They are not known postally used. Line rouletted in color.
