Does anyone have a town cancel other than Port-au-Prince on Scott 101?
The few used examples that I have all Port-au-Prince cancels.
I believe that covers, used multiples, and town cancels are also rare because it was such a high value. At the time of issue, single weight letter rate for mail addressed abroad to North America or Europe was 10c de g, the domestic intra-town letter rate 1c, and the domestic inter-town rate 2c.

Another reason for the scarcity of covers, used multiples, and town cancels is is that numerous overprints and surcharges were applied to 90% or more of the 1,000,000 stamps printed.

While classifying a group of 1902 Provisional Issue forgeries using Perer C. Jeannopoulos' study "Haiti's 1902 Provisionnal Issue", a came across a bunch of stamps bearing perfectly all of the features of a III-2b-D classification. But to my surprise, out of the lot, a bunch of thity or so stamps had the crossbar of the "A" of MAI obviously tilting below center to the left hand side. There is a mention of this particular feature in Leon Montes' book "La Timbrologie Haïtienne 1881-1954". According to the description published in his book, these stamps carry all of the features of what he calls Group III. I am working with Jeannopoulo's methodology and would not want to change as I find that it is a spendid reference manual and feel very comfortable working with it. My question here is can someone help me in finding an answer to this enigma.

Does anyone have all four stamps in his collection, and is able to show them in the forum? I have been trying for years to find Scott's RA42 and RA43, without success. Whenever I saw them offered they were either clearly the same shades I already have, or they turned out to be the same shades when I ordered them.

According to Scott, RA42/43 were issued in 1972 in "violet blue" and "deep carmine", respectively. Two years later, in 1974, a reprint was issued in different shades: "ultramarine" and "carmine rose", listed as RA44 and RA45. The scans below show RA44 and RA45 from my own collection:

Compare these with two other stamps, RA36 and RAC12, according to Scott printed in "violet blue" and "carmine":

So, this is what RA42 and RA43 should approximately look like, without the brightness gradient of course, and the red stamp with a deeper tone. Definitely not the same shades. That's why I was so sure I got it right, and my stamps were indeed RA44 and RA45.

Now take a look at this cover:

The two stamps at the top right hand corner are mínt copies of RA44 and RA36 I put there for comparison. Obviously, the canceled 5c "CA" stamps have the same color as my copy of RA44, but this cover was canceled on February 20, 1973:

Either Scott's date is wrong, or my color perception is seriously off. Does anyone have more information on this issue? And again, is anyone able to produce a scan with all four stamps in it?

Thanks, Manfred.
