The 3 8 manuscript on the ront indicates postage due of 3 pennyweight 8 grains of silver, the sum of a distance fee for 100 to 200 miles and 16 grains ship letter fee. The letter is to the French Consul in Boston and the writer apparently complains of not receiving payment for 54 gallons of wine and 12 barrels of rum.
